The purpose of this page is to provide you with information on the activities that we get up to as Air Cadets. As our name suggests we do a lot of activities related to flying and the RAF. This is one of the activities that a lot of people join the ATC for.
There are three aircraft used by the Air Cadets. They are the Grob Tutor, the Viking and the Vigilant; each unique aircraft. In addition to these three, cadets often get the opportunity to fly in many other NATO aircraft including helicopters.
Some very lucky cadets may even get the chance to experience a ride in a fast jet! The ATC offers Gliding and Flying Scholarship schemes which are based on competitive selection. These schemes offer free flying training for cadets up to "first solo" standard.

Grob Tutor - This is the aircraft used for powered flying. It is fully capable of aerobatic maneuvers.

Grob Vigilant - The Air Cadet's Powered Glider used to teach cadets the skills involved with gliding. As this glider has an engine it can self launch.

Grob Viking - The Air Cadet's standard or "real" glider. This glider requires either an Aero tug or whinch launch.
Sport is a big part of life in the Air Training Corps. The sports currently undertaken in competion in the ATC are Cross Country; Swimming; Netball; Five-a-side; Athletics and Hockey. Sport is activly encouraged as it is in the RAF and other services to encourage our cadets keep healthy and active.
Five-a-side is male only, whereas Hockey and Netball are particpated in by female cadets. Cross country and Atheltics are competed in by both males and females. Cadets have the opportunity to represent their Squadron, Wing, Region and potentially the Air Training Corps if they have sufficient ability.

The ATC is the UKs largest operator of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (D of E) is an activity aimed at young people to encourage them to be more active. It involves planning an expedition and camping out overnight with an emphasis on teamwork. It is highly recognised by employers and serves well to increase the confidence of the young people.
